The main aim of "The Life of Riley" is to create an open and inviting space where visitors can gather and enjoy a grand ambience. The public area of the house has been meticulously designed to maximize space and ensure unimpeded circulation between the living room and dining room. By skillfully collocating furniture, fixtures, and equipment, Aric Chang has created an ample and delicate ambience that exudes elegance and sophistication.
One of the unique features of this design is the fusion of seemingly conflicting style elements. Aric Chang has taken the popular decorationism of the early 20th century and reinterpreted it through concise lines that embody the essence of modernism. The result is a "Neo-Classical Style" that is both gorgeous and full of modern spirit. Despite the seemingly chaotic lines in the space, there is a well-set order that creates a harmonious and visually appealing environment. The use of the same hue across different materials adds to the space's charm and cultural aesthetics.
The realization of "The Life of Riley" relies on the skillful implementation of design techniques. The use of concise lines throughout the space creates an elegant and visually rich atmosphere. Titanium plated, tawny mirrors, and natural shellfish are cleverly utilized to bring a touch of decorative art to the design, adding a sense of luxury and opulence.
Mirrors play a significant role in both the public and private areas of the house. In the public zone, mirrors are strategically placed to alleviate the visual sense of beams and columns, creating an open and spacious feel. The rolling cloud design of decoratism is crystallized, resulting in exquisite multi-level vision. In the private sectors, mirrors are used in conjunction with artistic paintings and stripes on the walls to outline each spatial distinguishing feature and enhance the distinct and profound personal style.
Technical specifications of "The Life of Riley" include the use of large-sized Italian stone pattern tiles for the living room floor. These tiles not only create the impression of noble marble but also make cleaning and maintenance much easier, ensuring the longevity of the design.
Despite the challenges faced during the design process, such as the complex interface of the TV wall, Aric Chang successfully overcame them. The TV wall incorporates various structures, including carpentry, marble walls, metal titanium plated iron plates, and glass tawny mirrors. The doors on both sides of the TV wall utilize ground hinge iron doors, which bear the weight of the marble and reduce their thickness to one centimeter, allowing for easy opening and closing.
"The Life of Riley" is a testament to Aric Chang's expertise in creating luxurious and sophisticated designs. By combining elements of decorationism with modernism, he has crafted a space that exudes elegance and opulence. This design has been recognized for its excellence and was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in 2021, a prestigious accolade that celebrates well-designed, practical, and innovative creations.
